You are quite right, good hearing is a valuable sense, and it pays to look after it.
Unfortunately, mine was damaged irrevocably when I was 13 years while sharing a pigeon hide (what else?).
My companion fired a shot directly over my head, the blast of which nearly knocked me to the ground, and I have suffered tinnitus ever since.
Modern, battery-operated earmuffs, are both efficient and comfortable, and have the added advantage of allowing you to hear normal conversations, and all the sounds that we enjoy in the countryside.
The best ones are quite expensive but they?re well worth the money.
