The Kent and East Sussex branch of the Utility Gundog Society has raised funds to award an annual bursary to young handlers, who show the potential to go further in the sport.
The award will be decided by the judges at the society’s fun day and will take into account handling ability, empathy with dogs and general demeanour.
The bursary will consist of three half day training sessions with well known gundog trainer Gilly Nickols and the opportunity to spend a day with their dog, under instruction, on a shoot.
The fun day and barbeque is on Saturday July 31 at Piplye Ponds, Horsted Keynes and is open to all. Competitors are divided into four categories, young handlers, pre-novice, novice and open, and will have five tests to take throughout the day.
For further information contact Sarah Turley on sarah.turley@homecall.co.uk or call 01435 867784. For more information on Gilly Nickols visit www.bedgebrookgundogs.co.uk.
