Eventual winner, Kurt Becksteiner and Bell Octave Apollo in line at the last drive of the day.

An Eastern Counties Golden Retriever Club novice stake was held at Brook Farm, Cuffley by kind permission of Mr Woods.
The card for the 12 dog field trial was full with reserves in the wings which is always a comfort for the secretary.
Judges for the day were Phil Allen, David Barnes and Stuart Robson.
The guns team was nine strong and provided a more than sufficient supply of birds.
The first drive encompassed a substantial hill where the heaviest of the shooting was at the bottom.
Some of the longer retrieves from the top of the hill to the bottom proved more demanding as the morning progressed and there was some consternation as to the scenting conditions.
After lunch the remaining dogs found themselves in high white grass facing a field of roots and it was here that the field was narrowed down to the four dogs which appeared in the awards.

1 Kurt Becksteiner with Bell Octave Apollo
2 Roger Benton with Kessgold Sorrel
3 Neil Franklin with Glenweaver Self Sufficient
