We have a two-year-old spaniel bitch that's from working stock, but was bought as a pet. During last season our spaniel worked well flushing and retrieving, although she has had very little training.
However, she gets very excited when the guns start to shoot and will run off in the direction of them, much to our, and others, annoyance. Is there anyway we can rectify this problem and overcome any more embarrassments?

At two years of age and with very little training and schooling, your gun dog must have a lot of natural ability to manage a day out shooting and picking-up.
The reason that she runs towards the guns is because she has worked out that this is the area where all the birds are and she is only trying to please you by fetching you a retrieve.

Stand about 10m away with your dog facing you, fire the pistol and if your dog makes any attempt to move, sit her back on the same spot and repeat the exercise.
He has no problem at all with thrown dummies or th...
