Clay shooting to become a GCSE module

As from september schools will be able to offer students a GCSE in clay target shooting

From September, schools will be able to offer a GCSE module in clay target shooting. The new qualification requires students to gain knowledge of the required safety standards, rules and regulations, and students must also demonstrate their ability in their chosen clayshooting discipline and submit video evidence as part
of their coursework.

Stevie Pattison-Dick, of exam board Edexcel, explained the module to Shooting Times: “Edexcel’s new PE GCSE has an enhanced sporting list which includes Olympic sports such as target shooting. It is not a stand-alone GCSE, but offered to students who do clay target shooting as part of a club where they learn the rules of handling guns and are bound by the laws surrounding gun handling. Clay target shooting could make up one of four sporting activities which a student has to perform in order to gain the full GCSE. Edexcel has been approached by a very small numbers of schools that wish to offer this sport.”

For further information on the new GCSE module, visit www.cpsa.co.uk.
