Confusion over the law on tail docking has resulted in a Pembrokeshire woman being fined £600 after she took three rottweiler puppies to Ireland to have their tails docked.
Tail docking for dogs has been illegal in Wales since 2007, with exceptions for some working dogs.
However, in a test case Pembrokeshire Council prosecuted Caroline Terry in a bid to clarify the law on tail docking in Wales.
The defendant maintained that, because the puppies were taken to the Republic of Ireland to have their tails docked, it was outside UK legal jurisdiction.
However, magistrates ruled that taking the puppies abroad with the intention of having the tails removed was an illegal act.
