The GB Olympic shooting squad was announced yesterday - with top names Richard Faulds and Charlotte Kerwood making the team.

The hopefuls will soon jet off to Beijing to compete against the world's finest shooters at the games next month.

The team is very optimistic: Elena Little, who will shoot ladies' skeet for the team, claimed she was "over the moon" to be selected.

Steve Scott, one half of the men's double trap team (with Richard Faulds), said: "Obviously I am chuffed to take part in the greatest sporting event in the world." He went onto say the prospect of participating in the Olympics "hasn't really sunk in yet".

The team has been working solidly to achieve gold this year.

Elena Little informed www.shootingtimes.co.uk: "My preparations have been going really well and I have been working very hard towards this goal."

Steve Scott added: "I will continue my preparations to get myself into the best possible shape."

The team has high hopes of good results in Beijing, and are hoping to better their performance at the 2004 Games significantly, when GB shooters failed to bring home any medals. However Faulds was recently crowned the Webley & Scott/CPSA World English Clay Sporting Champion, beating over 600 competetitors.

Team leader, John Leighton-Dyson, commented on the track record of Richard Faulds' performance, saying: "He has been shooting exceptionally well and he is an excellent medal prospect going into his fourth Olympics."

Simon Clegg, team chef de mission, said "I am delighted to welcome these shooting athletes into team GB, especially Richard who has been so successful for the team in the past. I am sure that his experience added with the blend of young exciting talent here is an exciting prospect for Beijing this summer."
