The deadline for shooters to present their evidence to the Home Affairs Committee on firearms control is fast approaching

The 27 August deadline for shooters to present their evidence to the Home Affairs Committee on firearms controls is fast approaching. Shooters across the UK are being called upon by shooting organisations to prepare personal submissions in order to put across the importance of legitimate shooting to those MPs sitting on the committee.

Following the murders committed by Derrick Bird in Cumbria and by Raoul Moat in Northumberland, the committee will examine the extent to which legally-held guns are used in crime and whether licensing rules are adequate. Both BASC and the Countryside Alliance have called on shooters to make individual submissions outlining their own participation in shooting sports, as well as the social, economic and environmental benefits of shooting.

If you would like to make a submission, email (in no more than 2,500 words) homeaffcom@parliament.uk or in writing to Home Affairs Committee, House of Commons, 7 Millbank, London SW1P 3JA. You need to include your contact details.

For more on how to make a submission, visit www.basc.org.uk or www.countryside-alliance.org.uk.
