12-point sika stag has been shot in Central Scotland but, claim CIC experts, though highly unusual, it is unlikely to make medal status.

A provisional assessment by one CIC expert measurer, Alasdair Troup, has resulted in a number of deductions as a result of the extra points and the fact that the head is uneven.

Currently the head is being examined for a final assessment by CIC sika expert Charles Fenn.

The animal was one of several sika which form an isolated herd that has not been contaminated by red deer blood.

Weighing only 35kg, the stag was extremely light and, it is believed, was an old animal.
