A man has been charged with a number of offences relating to illegal pesticide storage and firearms offences.

The charges came about as the result of an investigation by police into the death of several red kites near Ulverston in the past year.

Allan Armistead, aged 74, from Oxen Park, near Ulverston, appeared at Furness Magistrates’ Court on 6 December, where he pleaded guilty to three offences under the Firearms Act and seven offences under the Control of Pesticides and Food and Environmental Protection Acts.

He will appear at Lancaster Crown Court on 6 January 2012.
