A clay shooting event, in aid of a regional blood cancer charity, has raised an amazing £27,000 - and donations are still rolling in!

The shoot day, which alongside shooting included an auction, dance and raffle, was held at Bywell Premier SG in support of Bright Red, which aims to improve the lives of people who are dealing with illnesses such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

It was also in memory of Joe Barron, a cancer patient who, together with his wife and daughter was a leading light in organising the day.

Sadly, Joe died before the event.

Thirty teams from took part in a four-man Sporting competition over five stands with an additional two flush stands.

The winning team was The Musketeers - Paul Henderson, Wes Gray, Ian Mullarkey and Brewis Gair. Runners up were the Bottle Chuckas.

“The whole day was extremely enjoyable and a fantastic tribute to Joe,” said his wife Joan.

“The generosity we have seen from local businesses, families and friends has been incredible; without their generosity the event simply wouldn’t have been possible.”

Joan presented the cheque to Professor Matt Collin of the Freeman Hospital, who said: “Joe was a charismatic guy who was popular with everyone. He is greatly missed but this is an incredible tribute to him as a man who touched many lives himself.”
