Peter Wilson takes Gold in Men's Olympic Double Trap. After a nail biting finish, Peter Wilson has taken the Gold Medal in the Men's Olympic Double Trap, at the Royal Artillery Barracks, London 2012.
The World Record holder in the double trap clay shooting discipline has now proved that he is on top of the world having won the Gold Medal at the London 2012 Olympics with a score of 188 out of 200 using his Perazzi shotgun, a MX2005 with an adjustable rib.
In a stunning final round of 50 clays, Peter Wilson was on 143 out of 150 shots going into the final, but only 3 clays ahead of his nearest rival.
During the final he kept his cool despite missing a pair, dropping his lead to a nail biting 1 point but he rose to the challenge on the final 8 clays to beat his nearest rival by 2 clear shots - Sweden's Hakan Dahlby who claimed the Silver Medal , and Russia's Vasily Mosin who claimed the Bronze Medal.
Peter aged 25, a farmer’s son from Dorset, was the youngest finalist by 13 years and only started shooting at school following a sporting accident which prevented him from playing cricket and squash.
He had his first shots when he was 8 years old and didn’t really take the sport up until after he was injured. He left school a National Shooting Champion and was ranked world No.1 earlier this year before the Double Trap Olympic final.
After watching the event from the stands, Nick Fellows, CEO of the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association, said: "We are delighted with Peter’s historic win and we, the CPSA, would like to congratulate him on his Gold Medal. Peter is an inspiration to everyone, young or old, and his win just shows what you can do when you take up a sport."
