Buy British Gamebirds campaign

BASC and the Game Farmers? Association (GFA)are to launch a joint campaign to encourage all shoots to buy British-reared stock from a local source that complies with the Gamebird Code. GFA chairman Jonathan Crow said: ?Good-quality gamebirds are essential to good shooting and the best way to guarantee good poults is to buy from a local GFA member.?

BASC?s David Ilsley added: ?Our two organisations will be helping shoots to find local suppliers and giving tips on what to ask your supplier and how to prepare for the delivery of birds.?

The two organisations met several months ago to plan a campaign to implement the new code. Cards with 10 top tips on buying gamebirds will be available from both bodies. The tips will include advice on what to ask suppliers before purchasing eggs, day-olds or poults to ensure that the birds come from a reputable source. It will also include a guide for gamekeepers and shoot owners on how to prepare for the delivery of poults.
