Rural marketing company Be Rural has launched a set of awards to celebrate excellence in rural enterprise. Nominations for the Rural Business Awards opened on 9 February and will close on 24 April. The awards, which are supported by the CLA and sponsored by Sturgess Motor Group, will be presented at a ceremony in June.

The 10 categories are: best rural start-up; people’s choice; best renewable energy project; outstanding farm diversification project; best rural apparel product or brand; outstanding agricultural innovation; outstanding manufacturing business; best rural professional services business; best rural construction project, and best rural field sport, equestrian or rural recreational business.

CLA director general Helen Woolley, one of the judges, said: “We are delighted to support these awards. It is vitally important we recognise the innovation and excellence that I see present every day in businesses across the countryside. These awards will showcase some of the inspirational businesses that we can all learn from.”

Rural Business Awards joint founder Jemma Clifford (pictured left) said: “We finally have a dedicated set of awards just for our specialist rural sector. The Rural Business Awards will acknowledge the vital contribution rural companies make, encourage the countryside’s superb entrepreneurial spirit and recognise business excellence within the rural sector.

“The awards will be judged by an independent panel of judges, including the CLA’s Helen Woolley, and we are encouraging all businesses, whatever their size and UK location to get involved in the Rural Business Awards to receive the recognition they deserve.

“It is a chance for firms from every hamlet, village and rural location to showcase their excellence to the world! The impact that the rural economy has on our national economy is so often under-valued and I am looking forward to being able to share success story after success story as part of the Rural Business Awards.”
