The ban was one of a number of objectives for the Kennel Club, which also included the raising of awareness of the need to protect animals.

An electric collar was taken to the event, and even used on MPs willing to find out how strong the shocks from the collars are, even at the lowest setting.

Caroline Kisko, secretary of the KC, said: “There is strong political support for a ban from across the parties and throughout the UK. The Welsh Assembly has made a commitment to consider a complete ban and the Scottish Government has issued a consultation document on the subject. However, more MPs are needed to back the campaign to keep up the momentum until a ban is brought into place across the UK.”
