DEFRA minister visits shoot

David Heath, minister of state for environment, food and rural affairs at DEFRA, was given a full tour of the Kingweston shoot in Somerset last week to learn how rural businesses are working together.

The shoot, which is in his Somerton and Frome constituency, extends to 2,000 acres and is a challenging pheasant shoot with the occasional partridge and woodcock. Mr Heath met the people behind the local businesses involved, including the shoot captain, Jonathan Tait-Harris; Ashley Maunder, from MW Poultry; Robert Grecean, managing director of the Draco Pub Company, which owns the local White Swan in Somerton; and the pub’s head chef, Tom Blake.
