Sonia Clayworth, a keeper?s wife living in the Borders, has been announced as the third winner of the Game Bird of the Year award.

The prize, organised by the Gamekeepers? Welfare Trust (GWT), was devised by GWT trustee Lady Scott to recognise the extensive support of female partners and friends of gamekeepers across the UK.

Sonia (pictured, with husband Paul) helps with many tasks at the Kames estate, near Duns, including rearing and feeding pheasants, dogging-in, and looking after the dogs.

The GWT?s Helen Benson said: ?The ladies who work behind the scenes are quite remarkable in all that they achieve, whether pheasant rearing, cooking or organising shoot days. Their energy and enthusiasm are amazing and this year we are pleased to be able to give Sonia worthy recognition.?
