Is the grey squirrel killing off the UK?s woodland bird population? The non-native rodent will be under the spotlight over the next two years as the Game Conservancy Trust (GCT) launches the largest investigation to-date into the grey squirrel?s effect on woodland bird populations.

Red squirrels in England are now only surviving in reasonable numbers in ?reserves? where greys are kept out or their numbers strictly controlled. This research project aims to determine whether controlling grey squirrels can actually increase the breeding rates of vulnerable species of woodland birds.
