Honours for Windsor keeper

A gamekeeper who is responsible for a beat of 1,000 acres on the Windsor estate has been awarded the Royal Victorian Medal in HM the Queen’s birthday honours.

Ian Watmore, known as Benny, has worked for the Crown Estate for 33 years. Mr Watmore started his career as a plumber, but transferred to the Game Department more than 25 years ago.

On being awarded the Royal Victorian Medal, Mr Watmore said: “I was over the moon when I was told that I was going to receive this great honour. I am elated and it is fantastic to be recognised for my work.

“Being a gamekeeper is a way of life rather than a job and I really enjoy my role working in such a special environment.”
