Olympics start with a bang

Shooting events at London 2012 started with a bang last week with sell-out crowds witnessing the first medals of the Games being won.

Unlike many of the other Olympic venues, every seat was taken at the Royal Artillery Barracks in south-east London to see the finals of the men?s and women?s 10m air pistol, the women?s skeet and the women?s 10m air rifle.

Team GB skeet shooter Elena Allen was left disappointed after being eliminated in the qualifying rounds of the competition, finishing in 14th place with a score of 60 points.

She said: ?I was shooting extremely well over the last four or five weeks and particularly coming close to this event. ?The only time we get to experience the crowd and the noise is when we have these big competitions and unfortunately the pressure got to me.

?I let the occasion knock my performance. It was a really bad day at the office and it just wasn?t good enough. I now need to make sure I?m ready for Rio in four years? time.?
