Paralympians aim high

The Olympic shooting venue at the Royal Artillery Barracks in south-east London is expected to be packed for the start of Paralympic shooting competitions tomorrow, Thursday, 30 August.

A total of 140 athletes from 44 different countries, including 12 team members from the Paralympics GB squad, will compete across 12 events ? five with the air rifle, three with the rifle, and two each for the pistol and air pistol.

Paralympics GB head coach Pasan Kularatne believes the British squad, which includes GB?s only shooting medallist at the 2008 Beijing Games, Matt Skelhon, can enjoy success on home soil.

He said: ?When you compare where we were when I started as coach almost six years ago, we are in a great position.

?We only had four shooters in Beijing and in London we will have 12. Matt?s gold has definitely helped raised the profile of the sport and helped the funding.?
