What shotgun bore for boar?

What shotgun bore for boar?

Wild boar are spreading through many areas of England.

There are wild boar in our area. Can I shoot them with my shotgun?

Legal
David says: I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Boar are dangerous animals and normally you need to use a rifle of at least .270 calibre, and preferably larger.

None of the shot sizes regularly available in this country is even remotely suitable for such a large and dangerous animal as this. You could use a solid slug but this requires a firearm certificate and you would have to justify good reason to the police before they issue one.

The maximum effective range for a 12 bore in these circumstances is 50 metres and smaller bores are not suitable.
