I am thinking of buying a new shotgun and understand I have to inform the police by special delivery or recorded post.

However, a friend has told me that I can email them. Is this correct?

SHOTGUN LICENCE
Graham Downing
Introduced in April, the Firearms (Electronic Communications) Order permits the licensee to send notifications to the police by electronic means, which includes both fax and email.

The police are required to publish an electronic address to receive such notifications, but if you are in doubt, then check with your firearms licensing department.

Obviously electronic notification is much quicker and easier if you have a computer or access to a fax machine, but you can still send a notification by post if you prefer.
