Team GB Olympic skeet shooter Amber Hill is going to be one to watch at Rio 2016. Here are a few interesting things you should know about her…

Amber Hill has had to withdraw from Team GB for the Tokyo Olympics

  1. Her sporting hero is American Kim Rhode who won gold in London 2012 along with Olympic gold medals in Athens, Beijin and Sydney
  2. She shoots with a handmade Perazzi MX2000.
  3. She describes her Perazzi as ‘perfect’
  4. It was specially created for her in orange and black colours
  5. She started shooting at age 10 with her grandfather who was a keen clay shooter
  6. She says she was hooked on shooting from that time on
  7. Her grandfather encouraged her to try all the different disciplines FITASC, DTL, trap and skeet
  8. She competes in skeet because she “loves it”
  9. She was BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2013
  10. She says: “being positive can make something good happen and that’s how I work”
  11. She was competing with the England team at the age of 12
  12. In 2013 she equalled the world record, shooting 74 out of 75 clays.

  14. She goes to the gym four or five teams a week, saying that it helps her with her sport
  15. In a training session she’ll shoot 250 to 300
  16. She shoots with pink cartridges by Eley, featuring her name “Amber by Eley”
  17. They were designed for women as they have a slightly softer recoil
  18. However men apparently like the pink cartridges too
  19. Her father is a builder and her brother a keen rugby player
  20. She will be 19 on the day of the Rio closing ceremony
