The home of Shooting Times and Sporting Gun

The Sporting Gun Clubman Championship

The country’s biggest club championship has been given a new lease of life for the summer.

The shoot has moved to the stunning grounds of Althorp in Northamptonshire, Princess Diana’s childhood home and her last resting place.

Second, and to make the most of the very natural parkland slope and setting there, we turned the Clubman into an 80 bird Sporting Championship to be shot over ten stands.

Course designer, Graham Brown of Purbeck SG, is relishing the new challenge. “The layout lends itself to showing all manner of angles and speeds: club shooters will love the variety they are going to get” he said.

Apart from that the Clubman remains pretty much the same as ever:
– It’s only open to shooters who have never been registered higher than B Class in any discipline.
– Previous Clubman gun winners are unable to enter.
– All clubs can still enter up to five members as a team – Club Champion, Runner-up and Best Lady, Junior and Veteran.

The fairest way to do this is to run a Clubman Qualifying shoot or, if there is no room in your fixture’s list, nominate an existing date.

At the time of writing a Clubman 2007 promotional pack was being mailed out to gun clubs around the country containing entry details, costs and rules. If you have not yet received the official invitation then please email: [email protected] to request an entry form.

THE CLOSING DATE FOR CLUB REGISTRATION IS: 14th JULY 2007.

And the prizes are…?

BROWNING/ WINCHESTER
The very latest version of the award-winning Winchester Energy is a remarkably beautiful piece of kit that will quickly take pride of place in your cabinet. Improvements to its balance and handling have paid off handsomely in terms of better scores and smoother shooting. Even the fences and action walls have been reworked to make this a gun to be proud of.

Browning have very generously donated five of these wonderful Sporters to the prize list so this means winning Lady, Junior, Veteran and Clubman runner-up get to leave the ground with the same gun as the Overall Champion!

LYALVALE EXPRESS
We don’t know exactly how many DJ Cartridges have been put into the prize pot by Lyavale but we will let you know the moment we’ve counted each one by hand. All we do know is there are tens of thousands of ’em, so it could take a while, we guess.

Needless to say all Clubman shooters are expected to use Lyavale products for the shoot, which certainly isn’t a problem – as many clubmen already use DJs for all their shooting anyway!

PROMATIC
High value individual prizes are obviously important at the Clubman, but so too are the team trophies. Promatic – one of the biggest names in quality trap manufacture – are putting up a stunning automatic for the winning five-man team at the final. They will also receive a pallet load of clays – as will the winning two-man club team.
