Annual Woodcock Club dinner announced for 2017

The magnificent house at Crowcombe Court was built in the 1730s in the English regional baroque style by Thomas Parker and the interior features plasterwork by Grinling Gibbons. It was described by Sir Nikolas Pevsner as: “The finest house of its date in Somerset south of the Bath area”.

The house has recently benefited from a major restoration project by owners David and Kate Kenyon. David retired from the Army in 2001 and has since worked for the British Association for Shooting and Conservation and more recently as the Director for England and Wales for the British Deer Society. Together they have put the countryside at the heart of their Crowcombe Court home.

Crowcombe Court is used as a shoot lodge throughout the shooting season. When the Woodcock Club team visited in early November, there were pheasants along the driveway and wild deer rutting in the hills surrounding the house. The house, together with the kind hospitality of David and Kate, provides intimate Edwardian luxury in a wonderful West Country setting and it is the perfect location for the 34th annual dinner.

Unfortunately after many years Glenfarclas are no longer supporting this event through sponsorship and it is only through David and Kate’s generosity that the dinner is going ahead in 2017.

At the time of writing we have two sponsors in place for the dinner at Crowcombe Court. Pommery Champagne will be providing the reception with their fine Reims made champagne. The Pembrokeshire Brewery, based on part of Sir Edward Dashwood’s estate, will be providing every attendee with a bottle of their renowned woodcock ale. The label was designed by famed wildlife and woodcock artist Owen Williams. Negotiations for a third whisky sponsor are almost completed. More news will follow.
