To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Shooting Times, around 100 guests enjoyed an evening of champagne and canapés in Purdey's Long Room on Audley Street, Mayfair, last Thursday.
The venue was particularly appropriate as the gun maker’s headquarters were opened in the same year that ST was first published, 1882.
Publishing director, Hamish Dawson, guided guests through the history of the magazine in his speech:
“Priced at one penny, it was edited by Lewis Clement, aka ‘Wildfowler’. It was a black and white, newsprint publication, containing only two illustrations. Now on 6 September, 2007, over 6,500 issues later, a weekly, A4 sized, 132 page edition of Shooting Times and Country Magazine was published.”
The full story and more pictures will appear in the 4 October edition of Shooting Times.
