An estate in Pethshire has been praised for its conservation efforts
The Remony estate, in Perthshire, has been praised for making a ?significant contribution? to Scotland?s and Ireland?s conservation efforts to support the iconic golden eagle. The statement, by Scottish Land & Estates, followed news that one of two golden eagle chicks which hatched on the estate earlier this year had been airlifted to Ireland to join the Golden Eagle Trust?s re-introduction programme.
Estate owner James Duncan Millar said: ?I?m very proud of the range of biodiversity that the Remony estate offers. It has had a fair quota of raptors over the years, which at one time or the other has included sea eagles, golden eagles, merlins and peregrines.
?When we were approached by the golden eagle reintroduction programme for Ireland I was keen to help, as long as it was all legitimate and the overall golden eagle population would benefit.?
The chick completed its journey safely and has joined a female eagle from the Isle of Mull. The reintroduction programme aims to re-establish a self-sufficient breeding population of the bird in County Donegal, Ireland, after an absence of nearly 100 years.
