Gamekeeper praised by police after finding woman.
David Wharton, a member of Country Watch, was patrolling the Hawnby Estate in North Yorkshire, when he discovered the woman’s car.

Following a search of the nearby woods, he discovered her in a “cold, wet and distressed state” before taking her back to his car to wait for police officers to arrive.

He had learnt of the search for the woman, described as “vulnerable” by police, through Ringmaster, a computerised crime messaging system, which sends out urgent information to the force’s partners such as Country Watch and local Neighbourhood Watch Schemes.

Inspector Tim Hutchinson, commander of Ryedale’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, said in a letter to Mr Wharton: “The actions and the care you took once you found her made the difference. This is another example of the value and importance of you and other members of Country Watch. You are the eyes and ears of local police.”
