The Bridgewater Bay Wildfowlers' have been given a land-purchase loan by the WHT
The Bridgwater Bay Wildfowlers’ Association (BBWA) has bought 10.5 acres of grazing wetlands thanks to a land-purchase loan from the Wildlife Habitat Trust (WHT).
The £18,000 loan has enabled the club to buy the site at Aller Moor, near Bridgwater, in Somerset, as well as helping the club to secure more land nearby.
BBWA chairman Stuart Hill said: “Land purchase for an association can be very stressful. WHT has helped us to buy 10.5 acres of wetland, which helped us secure just over seven acres of adjacent wildfowling land from other landowners.”
The BBWA has existed since 1955, and has 78 members, six of whom are juniors. The club recently defended wildfowling on the foreshore of the “excepted area” of Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve (NNR) against the threat posed by the new Hinkley Point nuclear power station proposals. It also gained a 500m extension of the area eastwards into the NNR.
