Study shows countryside has “lost faith in coalition”

A recent study by research consultancy ComRes, commissioned by the Countryside Alliance (CA), has found that only 16 per cent of those living in rural Britain think that the coalition’s policies have helped those living in the countryside. Two-thirds believe that elected politicians are more interested in the opinion of city-dwellers.

The survey, which took in 2,053 respondents, showed that 70 per cent disapproved of the Government’s policies on petrol and fuel taxes.

Tim Bonner of the CA commented: “We understand the difficult economic situation and the complications of coalition politics, but these figures clearly show that rural people perceive the Government as being focused on metropolitan concerns.
