Defra has opened applications for the 2025 Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF), with deer chiller trailers eligible for grant funding following updates to the equipment list.
The fund allows applicants to claim 50% of the cost of two models of deer larder trailers: FETF423, suitable for up to 20 deer carcasses, and FETF424, for up to 30. The grant values are £7,545 and £9,919 respectively. Trailers must meet specific criteria, including a temperature-controlled environment (1°C to 8°C), insulated food-grade construction, a built-in handwashing station and integrated carcass handling equipment.
BASC has welcomed the inclusion of the trailers, saying it “helps farmers, growers, foresters, contractors and land managers invest in equipment and technology in a range of areas, including deer management”.
The FETF is part of Defra’s Farming Investment Fund and supports productivity, animal health and welfare, and environmental sustainability. More than £46million is available in this funding round, and applicants can apply for up to £25,000 per theme.
The application window closes at midday on 10 July 2025. Full specifications and eligibility criteria are available on the BASC website and via gov.uk
