Does this mean our shoot insurance will be invalid if someone is injured while using it?

Shooting legal advice
Regrettably the fact you’ve been using it for 20 years doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe or in conformity with modern requirements.

The risk is less one of insurance – you’ll probably be covered – but more one of a possible prosecution for a breach of health and safety legislation, especially if someone is injured.

To sum up: trailers used as transport must have proper seats, sides and backs together with a safe means of access, usually a ladder.

Somebody must be in charge of the trailer and have a means of communicating with the driver.

All vehicles and trailers must be properly maintained. Many shoots now use purpose built trailers.

Ex-army lorries with proper troop seating are also suitable.

There’s a useful guide on the BASC website.
