Following a week of torrential rain and gale-force winds, writes David Winser, the weather finally broke on Monday 18th December, just in time for a German Shorthaired Pointer Club All-Aged stake which was held on new ground at Canonbie, Dumfriesshire, on the Netherstead Shoot, by kind permission of Debbie and Jerry Sinclair.

A full card went onto a hill bathed in sunshine on this slightly crisp morning and some excellent work was seen. The judges were Peter Bakewell (K.C. A Panel) and Eileen Winser (Non-panel), who felt that in general the standard of work was high. Although some dogs fell by the wayside for a variety of reasons, at the end of the day they were able to award a First place to Mick Canham?s Stubblemere Lunar Eclipse (pictured), a German Shorthaired Pointer bitch that has figured in the awards quite a lot over the past two seasons. They also awarded a Second place to Jo Tunley?s German Shorthaired Pointer bitch Hertzabruck White Myrtle, another regular in the placings. Calton Foxcub on Harris, a young Hungarian Vizsla dog owned and handled by Kim Gillan, was awarded a Certificate of Merit.
