Gun dogs: My gundog squeaked when I sent it for a retrieve in a test and the judge told me to call it in. Surely I should have been allowed to get the dummies?

GUN DOGS TRAINING
Paul Rawlings
Any serious fault in a test will mean a zero score for that particular part of the competition.

Whether the judge allows a gundog to continue the particular retrieve(s) after a misdemeanour or failure is entirely up to the judge.

But if you allow your dog to be rewarded by getting the retrieve immediately after it has made a noise, surely that reinforces the behaviour and makes it more likely to recur?

If it was one of my gun dogs, I would call it in straight away, hence removing the chance of it gaining pleasure after the crime.

Think what you would do in training. The squeak has earned a zero mark, so why continue?
