1,000th woodcock ringed

Conservation group The Woodcock Network is celebrating the end of a spectacular season ringing the birds, having passed its 1,000th woodcock ringed since its formation in 2008. This winter’s total was an impressive 677 woodcock ringed between November and March. This was achieved by 14 British Trust for Ornithology licensed ringers and four trainees — many of whom are keen woodcock shooters — working as far afield as the Isle of Rum in the north to Dorset in the south.
