Find out more. The Shooting Times Woodcock Club recently presented a cheque for £5,000 to the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) to support the charity?s innovative Woodcock Watch study, which has seen satellite tags fitted to migratory woodcock in order to trace them on their routes to their breeding grounds.
The study has already yielded some truly amazing results, with one of the birds, Monkey, having flown an astonishing 6,200km earlier this year from Cornwall, to arrive at breeding grounds in Russia, 500 miles north of the Mongolian border.
The money, raised thanks to a raffle and auction at this year?s Woodcock Club dinner, was presented on behalf of the club to Teresa Dent, chief executive of the GWCT by Shooting Times Editor Alastair Balmain.
