The game assurance scheme that Aim to Sustain have run for the past 18 months has been deemed “not viable” and will consequently cease operation.

Aim to Sustain is a partnership of shooting and countryside organisations that work collectively for a sustainable game shooting future.

Their game assurance scheme was a voluntary scheme that independently audited and certified game shoots, farms, and estates in order to demonstrate that they operated to high standards in areas such as animal welfare, game meat handling, environmental protection, and traceability.

The scheme aimed to promote responsible game management and shooting practices through self-regulation, however it will no longer be accepting new or renewal memberships.

Operations director of Aim to Sustain, Spike Butcher said: “Despite continued commitment of funding from the Aim to Sustain partner organisations, the scheme is not a viable and effective option in the self-regulatory matrix at the moment.

“The Aim to Sustain partners have therefore decided to focus on encouraging all shoots and game farms to match and exceed the Shoot Standards and Game Farm Standards, as well as adhering to the Code of Good Shooting Practice. The future of game shooting is underpinned by the upholding of those standards.”
