The driving forces behind Spider?s Appeal, which raises money both to protect the countryside and to benefit cancer patients, remain in good heart as their marathon fund-raising effort heads into its tenth and final year.

Barry Atkinson, with his English springer spaniel Spider, also called for shoots that they have still not visited to get in touch, as they attempt to raise £1million for the National Gamekeepers? Organisation Educational Trust and Cancer Research UK by beating on 1,000 different shoots.

Barry said: ?In the past nine seasons, I?ve driven more than 20,000 miles, and visited 930 different shoots ? just 70 short of our target total. ?But the appeal still attracts wonderful support, and the fund-raising running total is now in excess of £350,000. Many thanks to all those who have made the much-appreciated donations.?
