First of its kind

BASC has launched the UK’s first fully online Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 (DSC1) theory course, unveiled at The Stalking Show last weekend (11–12 April) and recognised by Lantra – the first DSC1 training delivery to achieve that status.

Developed by BASC deer experts, the course offers new and experienced stalkers a flexible route to their DSC1 qualification without the need for in-person theory sessions. Candidates still complete a practical shooting test, delivered as a pre-booked session rather than a full day’s commitment.

The online course sits alongside BASC’s existing assessment-only and traditional practical options, giving candidates greater choice in how they train. For BASC members, it is priced at £335 – £5 less than comparable alternatives – offering potential savings on travel, time and accommodation. For the first six months, those who complete the new course will receive a £50 BushWear voucher.

Supporting responsible deer management

BASC’s executive director of shooting and operations, Gareth Dockerty, said the course delivers “the most affordable, accessible and trusted route into DSC1, built for anyone, any time, anywhere”.

The DSC1 is designed for those who have taken up stalking and are seeking further advice and guidance.
