Country Sport Scotland, supported by BASC, is boosting fieldsports tourism across Scotland. Discover how shooting, stalking and fishing support rural jobs and communities.
It has been a landmark year for country sports tourism, which is enjoying growing economic recognition, as Peter Clark explains.
Country Sport Scotland is the national body promoting fieldsports tourism across Scotland. Proudly operated by BASC, it has grown into a trusted voice for one of Scotland’s most distinctive rural industries.
Originally launched in the early 2000s as the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Group, its founding aim was simple: to promote Scotland as a premier destination for shooting, stalking and fishing while highlighting the cultural and economic value these sports bring to rural communities.
Now with full BASC support, Country Sport Scotland has entered a new phase of ambition and partnership. It plays a bigger role in Scotland’s tourism landscape, advocating for country sports while championing the estates, providers and guides that make the sector thrive.
From red deer stalking in the Highlands to salmon fishing on world-class rivers and walked-up grouse shooting, the experiences promoted are rooted in heritage and delivered with professionalism. At the same time, the organisation is adapting—embracing digital tools and reaching new audiences to keep country sports relevant.
In May, Blair Castle, Perthshire, hosted the inaugural Scottish Country Sports Tourism Conference. More than 60 estates, sporting agents and tourism providers came together to discuss collaboration and sustainable growth.
Momentum continued in July at the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Awards, held during the GWCT Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace. Now in their third year, the awards celebrated estates, agencies and businesses leading the way in conservation, community engagement and sustainability.
Country sports are vital to Scotland’s rural economy, supporting thousands of jobs while sustaining communities. They also preserve traditions passed down for generations, from deer stalking to game shooting.
With rising international interest in authentic country experiences, there is huge potential for growth. Country Sport Scotland is proud to be at the heart of that effort, ensuring fieldsports remain a thriving and valued part of Scotland’s future.
