Blackbird numbers severely affected by predation

A new study that has collected data from more than 2,300 blackbird nests during the past 15 years shows that blackbird nest failures are directly linked to magpies and other predators.

The new study, which is published in an online supplement to the science journal IBIS, was carried out by scientists from the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust in collaboration with the University of Reading.

The research aimed to investigate the links between predator numbers, habitat management and nest success in the common farmland songbird.
