The RSPB has said that Europe’s population of red kites is in serious decline. There has been a big fall in numbers on the bird’s main wintering ground and among breeding pairs in Spain, France and Germany. The RSPB believes that the cause is intensive farming methods in Eastern Europe and the widespread use of poison. The UK, however, is home to seven per cent of the bird’s population.
