Leading industry voices paid tribute to the pioneers of tourism at the GWCT Scottish Game Fair on 5 July. BASC chairman Eoghan Cameron praised the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Awards for highlighting the significant contributions fieldsports make in the tourism sector.
Speaking after the event, held at Scone Palace, Perthshire, Mr Cameron said: “Each recipient sets a benchmark for excellence in responsible tourism practices and environmental stewardship, ensuring Scotland’s continued appeal as a premier destination for country sports enthusiasts.”
Kingairloch was crowned Best Sporting Estate and International Hunting Scotland was named the Best Sporting Agency. The Buccleuch Arms in St Boswells won the award for Best Sporting Accommodation, Campbell’s of Beauly was the Best Sporting Retailer and Twin Peakes Fly Fishing was named Best Sporting Innovator.
Findrack Sporting, Gordon Castle Estate, R Macleod & Son, SAC Sporting and Logiealmond Estate were also commended for their contribution and excellence. During the ceremony, VisitScotland regional director Neil Christison said the sector “supports local communities, preserves natural habitats, and promotes responsible and sustainable tourism practices”.
Selena Barr, co-founder of Fieldsports Press and one of the award judges, said: “Country sports tourism plays a pivotal role throughout Scotland, so it is immensely important to shine a light on those who are going the extra mile.”
