The GWT received a record number of applications for the Lady Scott Award this year, with Zoe Corney named as the worthy recipient
The Gamekeepers Welfare Trust received a record number of applications for the Lady Scott Award this year, with Zoe Corney of North Shropshire named as the worthy recipient.
Mrs Corney was nominated by her husband Stuart, head keeper of the Shavington and Cloverley Estate. The couple are approaching their 25th wedding anniversary and shooting season together. “At the end of a successful season the keeper takes so much praise. However, without a strong partner keeping all the cogs and wheels spinning, none of these things would ever be possible,” said Stuart.
As PA for a master saddler and estate office administrator, Mrs Corney manages dual roles whilst running the game cart on shoot days with her labradors Bertie and Whinny. And her dedication extends to family life: “Zoe is an amazing mum,” said Stuart. “She has steered Harry and enabled him to always achieve his dreams.” Harry recently received his green beret as a Royal Marine Commando.
Helen Benson, Gamekeepers Welfare Trust chief executive, commented: “All the nominees deserve a medal but Stuart told us Zoe is his hero, which we think is wonderful recognition of all she does to support him.”
The trust also announced joint Game Bird of the Year recipients Chloe Stonehouse and Samantha Ring, “inspiring examples of a can-do attitude” who have raised thousands through charity balls in Northern England.
