MP challenges banks over shooting industry discrimination

The news comes after Shooting Times reported on several cases of banks refusing to do business with game farmers and registered firearms dealers.

One gun dealer told Shooting Times that staff at his local HSBC branch had told him that his business was “not moral”, while a game farmer said that banks were refusing loans to people in the shooting industry.

The SDP’s Mr Shannon told Shooting Times: “By submitting the motion I was highlighting the policy of some banks to refuse loans to those gun-dealers and gamekeepers and the shooting community as a whole.”

“It is important that discrimination among some banks is addressed and that a review of all those decisions based upon bias against country sports is carried out. There should never be a denial for a loan or mortgage based upon a personal unjustified basis.”
