Orkney greylag geese on sale

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has announced that wild greylag goose meat can be sold at licensed outlets for the first time. The population of greylags has increased significantly, causing increasing agricultural damage. This led to the creation of the Orkney Resident Greylag Goose Adaptive Management Pilot, a project to control the resident population. The sale of carcases is being licensed from this month until July 2014.

BASC welcomed the move, saying it was a “wise use of a valuable resource”, but reminded wildfowlers that anyone caught selling wild goose carcases anywhere else in the UK will be committing an offence.
