Oxford and Cambridge annual clay pigeon shooting varsity match

On the 5th of May, teams from Oxford and Cambridge met for the annual clay pigeon shooting varsity match, held this year at Cambridge Gun Club in Cottenham, which ended with the home team leaving victorious in every match.

The 100 bird course saw a selection of challenging targets over 12 stands, with both sides shooting incredibly well.

This year marks the fifth consecutive year of the event, since it was reinstated in 2009, following a break of nine years.

Both Blues teams started strongly, with scores neck and neck over the first half of the course, however Cambridge showed their consistency over a wide range of targets and gradually pulled ahead throughout the second half.

Conditions were nearly ideal, with only the bright sun adding to the difficulty of the targets and little in the way of wind.

When final scores were counted the Cambridge Blues team had beaten Oxford by a convincing margin, with Cambridge scoring 234/300 to Oxford’s 194/300.

As well as the Men’s Blues match, Cambridge also secured victory in the Gold Men’s and Ladies’ matches with wins of 222/300 to 184/300 and 109/225 to 69/225 respectively.

Cambridge also walked away with their competitors winning High Men’s Gun and High Ladies Gun.
