Thousands of schoolchildren could learn to shoot in a proposal backed by the army.
Plans to increase the number of Combined Cadet Forces (CCF) in secondary schools received Gordon Browns backing this week meaning thousands more schoolchildren could potentially receive regular organised training in a variety of shooting disciplines.
The proposals come as part of the so-called ‘national recognition review’ into attitudes towards the Armed Forces headed up by Quentin Davies MP, a former Conservative MP who defected to Labour in 2007.
At the weekend, Mr Davies said that: The Prime Minister is very, very keen on the opportunities represented by cadet forces and we will be making a number of recommendations to increase the use of this superb national asset.
