Prime Minister backs Combined Cadet Forces in schools

Plans to increase the number of Combined Cadet Forces (CCF) in secondary schools received Gordon Brown’s backing this week — meaning thousands more schoolchildren could potentially receive regular organised training in a variety of shooting disciplines.

The proposals come as part of the so-called ‘national recognition review’ into attitudes towards the Armed Forces headed up by Quentin Davies MP, a former Conservative MP who defected to Labour in 2007.

At the weekend, Mr Davies said that: “The Prime Minister is very, very keen on the opportunities represented by cadet forces and we will be making a number of recommendations to increase the use of this superb national asset.”
