The answer will not become apparent for several years, so it remains to be seen if excess mortality, predicted by some, over the winter of 2012/13 will affect future roe generations.
As far as this review goes, recent cold winters do not seem to have had a discernible effect on the antler growth or the numbers of trophies produced, which have remained constant and of a high quality.
The figures for 2013 show that 214 Scottish trophies qualified for CIC medals, of which 52 achieved gold, 89 silver and 73 bronze.
